I packed the pipe with the cut 'twist' and after a few attempts at getting it going using a No:2 Disposable French BIC it finally took off. Took more out and let it dry about 15 minutes, much better. Overall, the tobacco flavor seems rather bland to me. But, it provides a thoroughly enjoyable experience to the bottom of the bowl, and a wonderful lingering aroma to your clothes. Of course the problem remains, I haven't tried everything else. One side note: this tobacco does well in roll your own cigarette to boot. Kendal Kentucky has the same miniscule shag cut as Dark Birdseye. I wish this had been the first pipe tobacco blend I ever tried. Dark brown in color. It just has good, tangy tobacco flavor, but with a wooded earthiness than makes it more than apparent that you are smoking burley and not Virginia. My review comes again from a very generous gift from a friend, some 6 bowls coming from a bulk. This is everything that I hoped for and more. I give it a full 4stars on its own merit and not comparing this to any other tobacco that I have had, as it is clearly unique in my opinion. Being a shag cut, it burns a bit fast, but clean with a very consistent, deeply rich and rugged flavor that translates to the long lingering, pleasant after taste, and pungent room note.
